Mad Max for PlayStation 4 is an open-world, third-person action-adventure from Avalanche Studios and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, set in the universe of the Mad Max films. You play as Max Rockatansky, a lone survivor fighting the gangs of Scabrous Scrotus on foot and behind the wheel as he heads for the storied Plains of Silence.

Magnum Opus: a car you build piece by piece

In the garage you swap the engine, chassis, wheels, armour, paint job and shell of Max's car. Parts come from scrap gathered across the desert and from vehicles you take from enemies. Every upgrade has a trade-off, so a bigger engine adds speed but makes the car harder to handle.

High-speed vehicular combat

According to the publisher, up to 60 percent of the game is spent driving. Flamethrowers and turbo boosts are mounted straight onto the car, while your mechanic Chumbucket fires the harpoon and repairs damage. Aiming while driving triggers slow motion, so you can switch between targets.

An open world of deserts, canyons and caves

The map is split into regions, each with its own backstory, strongholds and boss. Taking down enemy forts, destroying convoys and winning races lowers each region's threat level. Fuel, water and food have to be scavenged along the way, and a hot-air balloon lets you spot new objectives from above.
