Pokémon Legends: Z-A for Nintendo Switch is an adventure set entirely in Lumiose City, the largest city in the Kalos region. Released on 16 October 2025 and rated PEGI 7, it brings Pokémon into a living urban world packed with Trainers, wild zones and Mega-Evolved Pokémon.

Real-time battles, a series first

You and your Pokémon move and act at the same time: moves fire instantly and you can roll to dodge incoming attacks. Beyond type matchups, you weigh when to swap Pokémon, how long each move takes to execute and how wide it hits. Mega-Evolved Pokémon can join the fight too.

Catching wild Pokémon in Wild zones by day

By day, Lumiose opens up its Wild zones, purpose-built habitats where you catch Pokémon simply by aiming and throwing a Poké Ball. Some will flee if they spot you, so sneaking up from behind pays off. Watch out for Alpha Pokémon with glowing red eyes: they are far tougher to catch.

Night-time Z-A Royale tournament up to Rank A

After sunset, Trainers lie in wait inside enclosed battle zones around the city. Get spotted and you start at a disadvantage; stay hidden and you can land a surprise attack. Wins earn Ticket Points that unlock promotion matches against skilled Trainers, and reaching Rank A comes with the chance to have one wish granted.

Choose your partner: Chikorita, Tepig or Totodile

Your journey starts with a choice of partner: Grass-type Chikorita, Fire-type Tepig or Water-type Totodile. Your base is Hotel Z, run by the mysterious AZ, where you team up with Team MZ. Customise your hairstyle, hair colour and outfits, and give Furfrou a fashionable trim at a specialty shop.
